In Genesis 18:16-33, Abraham was pleading so much on
behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah. God was
willing to spare the cities from destruction if He found just ten righteous
people. Apparently, God did not find ten righteous people as big as the cities
were. The Bible does not say how many righteous people He found, but there may
not have been one more person of the same character as Lot’s in the cities.
Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, but Lot and His daughters were kept alive.
Our God is compassionate and slow to anger. However,
He can decide to destroy a nation or afflict it with disasters if it remains
unrepentant, and persistently evokes His wrath and judgment.
