This title expresses God's sovereignty over the heavenly
armies. It is one of the Names of God young David boasted in, when He faced
Goliath. Goliath bragged in his strength, but David boasted in his God, who
controls all heavenly and earthly armies. David’s confidence was in a God who
could deliver enemies into the hands of man without a sword or a spear. Surely,
there was something extra-ordinary in the stone David hurled at Goliath’s
forehead that made him slump to the ground; it was the power of God.
The story of David and Goliath portrays the powerlessness of man without God. Who do you call on when you are confronted with forces stronger than you? Do you call on your family, friends, men/women of God, graven images, or some deaf and dumb god? Call on Jehovah-Sabaoth. Only He can empower you to overcome the forces that intimidate you.
